The Royal opened in 1927 with 2700 seats. When it was remodeled and became the Three Arts seating was reduced to 1800 and the facade facing Talbotton Road was removed. It was demolished in 2007 to make way for the new Health Department building. It'…

John Suhr, A Columbus institution

In my freshman year at Hardaway High, a TV commercial was running showing a Barrington ford talking Fiat. A large pair of lips were superimposed over the grill of a car and a goofy character was asking the car to say a "Big word like ecomonickle." In history class my teacher got tongue tied and Lennord Ellerby asked her to say a big word like "ecomonickel." He had to stay in after school! This and so many TV commercials came from the genius of John Suhr. I have known John and Beverly Suhr since… Continue

The floor is rotted in a spot as wide as the building and about 12' deep. It was quick work with crowbars to take out the rotted floor. Twice I fell through the floor to the dirt about 18" below. The main timbers seem to be in reasonable shape but most of floor joist crumbled. In less than 45 minutes… Continue

You didn't read the entry, "Broadway's Getting a New Theatre?" I'm your neighbor across the street...you gave me and a colleague a look at what you've done in the Rialto.

Hello John, I don't know if you remember me but my dad was Hubert Martin (the one with the wooden leg) You and I shared shifts at the old Liberty Theatre years ago. I worked the drive-ins mostly and spent many a night at the Edgewood Drive-In with you and your dad. I always worked Harold Bishop's day off. I would love to chat with you sometime. I am still at the biz, 2 of my sons are working with me and we travel the USA installing and maintaining motion picture as well as D-Cinema equipment. I have been servicing and installing for 38 years, a long time. Hope to hear from you soon.
