Who is my Neighbor?

I heard an excellent sermon yesterday at First Presbyterian Church (Chuck Hasty) on this topic. "Who is my Neighbor?" The Good Samaritan story we've all heard so many times in Sunday School. Chuck substituted the Samaritan with a Muslim. In Jesus' day the Samaritan's were the Muslims of today--hated, feared and ostracized.

My weariness at people who profess to be Christians and don't love their neighbor has become a crushing weight. I am not saying the government is responsible, it is

Patricia at the Hogansville McDonald's

Last night on the way home from Atlanta we stopped to use the facilities and buy coffee at McDonald's. We had visited a facility in another place whose restrooms were so filthy we wouldn't go in. Upon entering the McD's bathroom it was sparkling clean and smelled of disinfectant (always a nice sign in a public BR!). I exclaimed how nice it was to find a clean restroom, and the woman who had just finished cleaning thanked me and said she took a lot of pride in her work. We bought our coffees and… Continue

Christmas Memories

My mother saved all the Christmas ornaments that belonged to my siblings and me and gave them to us when we started our own families. Each year, decorating the tree with those childhood memories causes a wave of nostalgia to sweep over me. Adding these to the ones my children have made, been given, or picked o… Continue

David Letterman

Call me naive, but I am shocked about these allegations. Dave always seemed to be such the goody two shoes in his private life. I once had a huge crush on him, and I am disappointed to find this out. Poor Mrs. Letterman.

I remember the skits he used to do with Stephanie Birkett and how he always had little… Continue

Sure is a pain that all we can control is ourselves, but that's a pretty big job. I think that phrase "it is what it is" should be changed to "it is what you perceive it to be..."
Nobody really sees us or what it's like to walk in our shoes. Sometimes, for a time, someone will see our true selves, but then it becomes obscured by who they are. God knows who we are. I guess that's why our best tools in dealing with each other are compassion and forgiveness.

...don't even want to say except that I'm glad to be alive and I'm glad to be me, and that's a big deal for me. Like you said, one step in front of the other...BUT, tomorrow I get to drive to Tifton and have dinner with my daughter, Annie, which is a delight for me. She is doing research there til the 18th then on to the Pacific Marine Mammal Research Center for 5-6 weeks. Thanks for checking on me. Spring is on the way!!! God is good.

I have been seeing this fox off and on for almost a year. At first I was a little scared because so many have rabies now, but he looks healthy and doesn't behave strangely. It was like a little blessing to see him this morning, even tho it looked like his right front foot was injured. It's such a blessing to observe the natural world even tho the people are continually narrowing their habitat.
